WhatsApp Updates Its Policies: Why This Doesn't Affect Jelou or Your Business

Meta recently announced a change to the WhatsApp Business Platform policies, under which it will restrict the use of “general-purpose chatbots” on the service.

This change aims to prevent WhatsApp from being used as a generic AI app — that is, people “chatting with an assistant that talks about any topic” — and to keep its focus on communication between businesses and customers.

And here's what matters:

This update does not affect Jelou or the companies that use Jelou.

WhatsApp wants businesses, not generic assistants

The restriction applies to platforms that use WhatsApp as a distribution channel for “general AI” assistants (for example, bots designed to chat about any topic or answer open-ended questions).

Jelou, on the other hand, is a platform for businesses to build their own transactional and service AI agents, focused on:

  • Serving their customers.
  • Processing payments and orders.
  • Authenticating users and validating identities.
  • Automating real business flows, within the most widely used channel in Latin America: WhatsApp.

That means Jelou fully aligns with the vision Meta promotes: using the platform to improve the relationship between businesses and people.

A change that reinforces our position

Far from being a limitation, this update reinforces the difference between “entertainment bots” and real business solutions.
